Step 1: Learn about your PLA options at Ocean County College

Ocean County College (OCC) students earn up to 18 credits via prior learning assessment, including portfolio assessment completed through NJ PLAN. Limits on credits earned through credit-by-exam programs (CLEP®, TECEP®, DSST®, etc.) and professional training, certifications and licensures require further clarification. View list of CLEP® exams accepted at OCC.

OCC accepts select training that has been evaluated and recommended for credit by the American Council on Education and the National College Credit Recommendation Service and will accept professional certifications and licensures evaluated by Thomas Edison State University as transfer credit.

OCC has agreements with county and municipal police and fire academies and with the Ocean County Vocational Technical School that enable students to transfer up to 12 credits for courses that usually have a specific course equivalency. OCC also has agreement that enables students to earn 16 credits for the successful completion of the OCC/MONOC Paramedic Training Program delivered through the college's Continuing and Professional Education program.

IMPORTANT:

  • Credits earned via DSST® and TECEP® exams will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis
  • OCC is currently clarifying its policies on credits earned via prior learning assessment
