Step 1: Learn about PLA options at New Jersey City University

New Jersey City University (NJCU) permits students to earn up to 96 credits through prior learning assessment, including portfolio assessment completed through NJ PLAN, credit-by-exam programs (CLEP®, DSST®, TECEP®, etc.) and professional training that has been evaluated and recommended for college credit by organizations such as the American Council on Education and the National College Credit Recommendation Service and institutions like Thomas Edison State University.

Credit earned via prior learning assessment at NJCU is awarded as electives toward the baccalaureate degree. The academic major department has the discretion to re-allocate elective credits toward major courses.

IMPORTANT:

  • Credits earned through prior learning assessment cannot duplicate credit earned via course work that has already been successfully completed.
  • Please check with an academic advisor at NJCU to determine what credits you have already completed via course work that are not eligible to be earned via prior learning assessment.
