Step 1: Learn about PLA options at Salem Community College
Salem Community College (SCC) does not have a limit on the number of credits that can be earned through prior learning assessment, with the exception an academic residency requirement of 15 credits.
Earning credit via prior learning assessment at SCC includes portfolio assessment completed through NJ PLAN, credit-by-exam programs (CLEP®, DSST®, TECEP®, etc.) and professional training that has been evaluated and recommended for college credit by Thomas Edison State University.
SCC accepts some CLEP® exams but not the following exams:
- Analyzing and Interpreting Literature
- English Literature
- French
- German
- Social Sciences and History
- Natural Sciences
SCC accepts only the following DSST® exams:
- Art of the Western World
- Criminal Justice
- Fundamentals of College Algebra
- Here's to Your Health
- Human/Cultural Geography
- Introduction to Law Enforcement
- Introduction to World Religions
- Lifespan Development Psychology
- Principles of Public Speaking
- Principles of Supervision
- Technical Writing
SCC accepts some TECEP® exams but not the following exams:
- Public Relations Thought & Practice
- Environmental Ethics
- Music History II
- Introduction to Critical Reasoning
- Introduction to Comparative Politics
- Psychology of Women
- Federal Income Taxation
- Business in Society
- Strategic Management
- Security Analysis and Portfolio Management
- Financial Institutions and Markets
- Managerial Communications
- Sales Management
- Advertising
- Negotiations and Conflict Management
- Operations Management
- Network Technology
- Radiation Safety Officer
Professional training that has been evaluated and recommended for credit may be accepted if it can be applied toward a degree program at Salem Community College.
