Step 1: Learn about PLA options at Brookdale Community College

Brookdale Community College grants credit for acceptable scores for all College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests except College Composition. Students who wish to earn College Composition credit must instead take the College Composition Modular test.

Brookdale Community College also grants credit for DSST exams (formerly DANTES) in 28 academic subject areas and for all Thomas Edison Credit by Exam Program (TECEP) tests. Students may also earn credit via portfolio assessment, which is available at Brookdale through NJPLAN.

In addition to credit by examination and portfolio assessment, Brookdale may also award credit to students with military experience and/or who have received training from entities or organizations such as the Monmouth and Ocean County Police Academies, the New Jersey Department of Corrections, and via coursework and certifications which have been evaluated and recommended for credit by the American Council on Education (ACE) or the National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS).

IMPORTANT:

  • A transfer student may transfer up to half of their Brookdale degree credits from outside sources.
  • Credits may be used to satisfy general education coursework for the degree or to satisfy some of the career studies coursework.
  • At least half of a student’s career studies coursework must be completed at Brookdale.
